Public Transport Bus Burns in Al-Arqoub Pass, Abyan, Without Injuries

A fire broke out on Thursday evening in a public transport bus as it was passing through the Al-Arqoub pass in Abyan governorate, in the south of the country, without any human casualties. The incident has brought the dangers of this mountainous road, known for its frequent accidents, back to the forefront.
Local sources reported that the fire broke out suddenly in the bus, before traffic police officers, with the assistance of several citizens, managed to control and extinguish the flames, preventing any human casualties.
This incident comes just a few months after a tragic traffic accident on the same road at the end of last year, when a violent collision between a public transport bus and a small vehicle caused both to burn completely, resulting in the death of 14 people and dozens of injuries. Local media estimated the number of injured at about 30 people, confirming that only five passengers managed to jump from the bus windows before it was engulfed in flames.
The Al-Arqoub road is considered one of the most dangerous mountain roads in Yemen, having recorded a series of horrific traffic accidents in recent years due to its ruggedness, steep inclines, and heavy traffic. This led local media to describe the last tragic accident at the end of last year as one of the deadliest since the beginning of that year.
Citizens and drivers are demanding that the relevant authorities take urgent measures to improve traffic safety on this road and enhance technical inspections of public transport vehicles to prevent the recurrence of such incidents that claim innocent lives.
