Syrian Interior Minister Confronts 'Tadamon Butcher' Face-to-Face in a Shocking Moment
In a scene charged with emotion, reminiscent of one of the most heinous crimes, Syrian Interior Minister Anas Khattab was seen confronting the accused in the Tadamon neighborhood massacre, Amjad Youssef, just hours after his arrest, in a moment described as a living embodiment of the long-awaited demand for justice.
In a widely circulated video clip, the minister asked the accused a direct question, putting him face-to-face with his actions in a confrontation that had shocking human dimensions.
In a completely different tone from the one he had 13 years ago while committing the crime, Amjad Youssef appeared confused and broken, answering in a faint voice: "I have a daughter and a son."
But the response did not stop the confrontation, as the minister sharply asked: "Don't you have a heart to kill people this way?!", before adding that what happened cannot be described as revenge, but an act lacking the most basic sense of humanity.
The announcement of the accused's arrest, which was made earlier on Friday, sparked a widespread wave of reactions on the Syrian street, with many expressing relief after years of waiting for the person responsible for the massacre to be held accountable, demanding full justice.
In the Tadamon neighborhood, demonstrations erupted expressing joy over the accused's arrest, coinciding with similar gatherings in other areas, amidst widespread attention to the photos and video clips broadcast by state media, revealing details of the operation that brought this case back to the forefront.
On April 16, 2013, Assad regime forces killed 41 civilians in the Tadamon neighborhood massacre, throwing them into a large pit. Human bones were later found in the area on December 20, 2024.
On April 27, 2022, the British newspaper "The Guardian" published a video it said was leaked by a soldier in a pro-regime militia, showing forces from "Branch 227" of the regime's military intelligence killing at least 41 people and burning their bodies in the Tadamon neighborhood.
Assad regime intelligence officer Amjad Youssef, whose face is clearly visible in the footage, was seen shooting civilians who were arrested, blindfolded, and with their hands tied.
The Ministry of Interior frequently announces the arrest of individuals involved in committing violations against civilians throughout the years of the Syrian revolution (2011-2024).
