British Official: It's in Our Economic and Security Interest that Houthis Don't Succeed
A British official stated that it is in the UK's national economic and security interest that the Houthis do not succeed in disrupting trade and energy supplies, considering them a serious threat to regional stability.
Wes Streeting, Minister of State for Defence and a Labour Party MP, wrote: "Escalating tensions in the Gulf could have a serious impact on the United Kingdom, as it disrupts trade and energy supplies, and raises prices for businesses and households.
He added: At the request of the Saudi government, the United Kingdom agreed to provide a Royal Air Force "Voyager" air-to-air refueling aircraft to support Saudi defensive operations in support of the legitimate government in Yemen.
The British official condemned the Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, stressing that Saudi Arabia and Yemen have the right to defend themselves. It is in the UK's national interest to protect regional stability, safeguard vital trade and energy supplies, and seek a diplomatic solution to the conflict in Yemen.
