CNN reported, citing undisclosed sources, that the United States is considering military plans for Iran, including the use of the "Mother of All Bombs" to target Iran's energy infrastructure and nuclear sites.

It added that using the largest non-nuclear bomb in the U.S. arsenal for the first time in a conflict with Iran would represent a significant escalation. It noted that there are doubts about the bomb's effectiveness in achieving any of Trump's declared strategic goals or changing the balance of the war.

The network quoted some U.S. officials who questioned whether the White House has a strategy that incorporates these military plans in a way that could actually end the war.

White House advisors said in private conversations that they do not know if Trump's statement about not taking action against Iran before the election is final or subject to change.

CNN said that Trump ordered the military to prepare additional strike plans against Iranian targets, including massive energy infrastructure and the potential use of the Mother of All Bombs. The military plans to strike Iranian nuclear sites, including Jabal al-Fas, explicitly state the use of the Mother of All Bombs.

The Mother of All Bombs can destroy an area equivalent to 9 city blocks, but it likely lacks the ability to penetrate deep enough into the ground to destroy the suspected nuclear facilities at Jabal al-Fas. If the Mother of All Bombs is used, it will have devastating effects on the area where it lands, but likely only at the surface level, according to the network.
