Prime Minister: Siege of Taiz and targeting of civilians are war crimes that demand accountability

Prime Minister Shai'a Mohsen Al-Zindani affirmed that the targeting of civilians in Taiz and the continued siege on the city constitute war crimes with no statute of limitations, stressing the need to hold those responsible accountable.
This came during a phone call Al-Zindani held on Wednesday with the Governor of Taiz, Nabil Shamsan, to review the humanitarian and service conditions and the repercussions of the siege and violations against the population.
The Prime Minister listened to a briefing on the restrictions imposed on access to food, medicine, water, fuel, and basic services, as well as the targeting of residential neighborhoods, vital and health facilities, which resulted in civilian casualties, including women and children, and increasing risks to public health.
Al-Zindani praised the resilience of the people of Taiz and the participation of the armed forces and popular resistance in defending the city, affirming that the government will continue to work with the local authority to address the consequences of the siege and alleviate the suffering of the population by coordinating efforts and utilizing available resources to meet humanitarian and service needs.
The Prime Minister called on the international community, the United Nations, and human rights and humanitarian organizations to take action to lift the siege and protect civilians, stressing the importance of documenting violations and conveying the humanitarian situation in the governorate to local and international public opinion with professionalism and objectivity.
For his part, the Governor of Taiz expressed his appreciation for the government's attention and follow-up on the governorate's situation, stating that this support strengthens the resilience of the population in the face of the siege and violations.
