Seiyun University Organizes Forum on Intercultural Dialogue and Community Coexistence
Today, Seiyun University organized a forum on intercultural dialogue and community coexistence, in collaboration with the Mediterranean Universities Union (UNIMED), under the theme "The University as a Bridge for Dialogue, Coexistence, and Peacebuilding in Societies," as part of the celebrations for the Union's 35th anniversary.
Jumaan Baraba, the Deputy Governor of Hadramout for the Valley and Desert Directorates Affairs, stressed the importance of holding the forum amidst the exceptional circumstances facing the country, region, and world. He emphasized the need to promote dialogue, understanding, and community coexistence to consolidate the values of peace and rapprochement among different societal components.
For his part, the President of Seiyun University, Mohammed Ashour Al-Kathiri, explained that the forum is an important milestone for enhancing the university's presence within the Mediterranean Universities Union system. He noted it opens new horizons for academic cooperation and partnership with member universities, in addition to showcasing the university's capabilities and its academic and community contributions.
Murshid Al-Jarw, the university's Director of International Relations, pointed out that the forum aims to highlight the role of higher education institutions in promoting intercultural dialogue, strengthening social cohesion, and spreading a culture of peaceful coexistence, as well as introducing the civilizational and cultural heritage of Wadi Hadramout as a model of cultural diversity and coexistence.
Through two main sessions, the forum discussed several topics related to the role of the university and community values in promoting dialogue, coexistence, and peacebuilding, and the role of youth, intercultural communication, and cultural heritage in building a coexisting and multicultural society, with the participation of a group of academics and interested individuals.
The forum included a speech from the Mediterranean Universities Union and two introductory video presentations about the Union on its 35th anniversary, and about Seiyun University, its capabilities, and its academic and community role. The event was attended by Assistant Deputy Governor Abdulhadi Al-Tamimi, the university's vice presidents, the secretary-general, deans of colleges, and a number of academics and interested parties.
