UN: Number of Displaced People in Yemen Rises to 260,000 Since August

The United Nations announced the displacement of about 260,000 people in Yemen since the beginning of last August due to military escalation, noting that Taiz governorate has received about half of the displaced.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said in a statement that the fighting has forced about 260,000 people to leave their homes since August, while humanitarian organizations have been able to reach more than 174,000 displaced people to provide basic assistance.
The office added that the UN Human Rights Office verified 251 civilian casualties during the same period, including 57 killed and 194 injured, noting that children accounted for half of the fatalities.
It explained that humanitarian partners, despite the difficult conditions, were able to provide aid that included food, hygiene kits, and emergency cash assistance to help the displaced during the first days after leaving their homes.
The statement indicated that aid has reached approximately six out of every ten families displaced since August.
It noted that newly displaced families identified shelter as the most urgent need, followed by food and cash assistance.
