Al-Alimi: State must investigate all violations by any party
Presidential Council Chairman Rashad Al-Alimi said that the state is committed to fighting its battle while upholding the law and investigating human rights violations, regardless of the party to which they are attributed, noting that war is not a justification for suspending the law.
He added, during his meeting with the National Commission to Investigate Allegations of Human Rights Violations, "Our battle to restore state institutions is, in its essence, a battle to restore the law and protect human rights, because the state that Yemenis are fighting to restore its institutions must be the first to be governed by the law."
The Chairman of the Leadership Council directed the government, local authorities, and relevant agencies to facilitate the tasks of the National Commission of Inquiry, and the access of its monitors to all areas and information that falls within its mandate, in accordance with the law.
During the meeting, the Commission provided a briefing on its activities in documenting, investigating, referring cases to the judiciary, inspecting prisons, detention centers, and sites where civilian casualties occurred, in addition to the facilities required to fulfill its tasks under relevant national and international laws.
The briefing included the main findings of the commission's fourteenth periodic report, which documented 2,062 incidents of violations affecting 2,932 victims in various governorates, including 501 incidents of civilian killings and injuries, resulting in the death of 193 civilians and the injury of 388 others.
Al-Alimi said that recent developments in Yemen require the Commission, within its mandate and independence, to intensify urgent monitoring and field investigation of incidents related to the escalation, especially in Taiz, Hodeidah, and Marib.
