Rights Radar Calls for Independent Investigation into Houthi Shelling of Residential Neighborhoods in Taiz

The human rights organization 'Rights Radar' said that Houthi shelling targeted residential neighborhoods in the city of Taiz, killing one woman and injuring 8 people, including children and women, which calls for an independent and transparent investigation to identify and hold accountable those responsible for the incident.
In a statement, the organization clarified that the shelling hit the neighborhoods of Sina and Asifrah, causing damage to civilian homes and properties, noting that preliminary information indicates the shelling originated from locations under Houthi control and targeted populated areas.
'Rights Radar' expressed its concern over what it described as the risk of violating the rules of international humanitarian law, particularly the principle of distinction between civilians and combatants, stressing the necessity of protecting the population and civilian objects from attacks.
The organization linked the incident to the ongoing Houthi siege and restrictions on civilian movement in Taiz, calling for an immediate halt to the shelling, lifting the siege and restrictions, opening the roads, and ensuring access for medical aid and the protection of health workers.
It also stressed the need for an independent and transparent investigation into the incident, holding those responsible accountable, and ensuring justice and redress for the victims, calling on the United Nations to take measures that contribute to the protection of civilians and accountability for violations.
