Taiz Governor Nabil Shamsan, on Monday, directed the preparation of comprehensive and accurate documentation of the humanitarian, service, and economic impacts resulting from the war and siege imposed on the governorate, to highlight the extent of suffering and support human rights efforts to bring the issue to local and international public opinion.

This came during Shamsan's meeting with the governorate's Siege Affairs Committee, attended by the Deputy Governor for Services Affairs Rashad Al-Ak'hali, the Director-General of the Human Rights Office Ali Sarhan, and the committee members.

Shamsan stressed the importance of relying on accurate and documented data in monitoring the effects of the siege. He pointed out that its repercussions were not limited to closing main roads but extended to restricting citizens' movement, hindering their access to health and education services, disrupting trade and relief efforts, cutting off water and food supplies, and the resulting increase in living costs.

The governor directed the committee to monitor the impacts of the war and siege since the Houthi invasion of the governorate and their targeting of the population and vital facilities in Mocha and the West Coast districts up to the present day, and to prepare professional, balanced reports that document violations and highlight their repercussions on citizens' lives.

He also called for developing monitoring tools and reporting mechanisms, and enhancing coordination with local and international human rights organizations and centers, to help bring the issue to the international community and demand accountability for those responsible for the violations.

For his part, the Director-General of the Human Rights Office, Ali Sarhan, reviewed the office's efforts in field monitoring and documentation of killings, violations against civilians, and the bombing of homes, aiming to build a documented database that supports the path to accountability and clarifies the extent of the violations to the public.

The committee presented its field efforts and its plan to expand the scope of monitoring to include various service and living sectors, in addition to preparing daily reports for the local authority leadership and periodic reports documenting the humanitarian and economic dimensions of the suffering.

In turn, lawyer and human rights activist Tawfiq Al-Shaabi stressed the importance of documenting the sequence of violations, from pursuing the displaced and blocking roads to targeting hospitals while treating the wounded, with the aim of conveying a clear picture to the international community and pushing for action to hold those responsible accountable, according to him.
