The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its rejection of the siege imposed by the Houthi group on the city of Taiz, calling for the opening of all roads and crossings leading to it and ensuring unimpeded access for supplies and humanitarian aid to the population.

In a statement on Saturday, the ministry said that the closure of the main road connecting Taiz and the interim capital Aden, along with the closure of other crossings, has isolated the city from its surroundings, warning of humanitarian repercussions that threaten the lives of hundreds of thousands of civilians.

It noted that the siege deprives the population of food, drinking water, fuel, medicine, and medical supplies, and obstructs the arrival of humanitarian aid and essential supplies, thereby increasing the risks of hunger, malnutrition, and the spread of diseases, at a time when the capacity of hospitals and health facilities to continue providing their services is declining.

The Lebanese Foreign Ministry considered the use of starvation as a weapon of war a grave violation of international humanitarian law, particularly Article 14 of the Second Additional Protocol to the Geneva Conventions.

It called for the immediate lifting of the siege and the reopening of roads and crossings, stressing the need to respect and implement Security Council Resolution No. 2801 of 2025, to ensure humanitarian aid reaches those in need and protects civilians from measures that deprive them of their basic needs.
