National Youth Team to Face Palestinian Counterpart in West Asia Championship
The U-17 national youth team kicks off its participation in the 13th West Asia Championship today, Saturday, when it meets its Palestinian counterpart in the Jordanian city of Aqaba, as part of the Group A competitions, which also includes the teams of Syria and Lebanon.
The match kicks off at 5:00 PM Yemen time, while the Syrian and Lebanese teams will meet in the group's second match at 8:00 PM.
During the tournament's press conference, the team's technical director, Anwar Ashour, confirmed that the team's preparations went well. He noted that the coaching staff focused on improving the players' technical, physical, and mental readiness to reach the highest possible level before the competitions begin.
Ashour explained that the championship is an important milestone for the team to gain more experience and exposure, and to prepare for upcoming events, primarily the Gulf Cup scheduled to be held in Qatar next month, in addition to the qualifiers for the Asian Cup, scheduled to be held in Kyrgyzstan next November.
The coach expressed his confidence in his players' abilities, stressing that the group will work diligently to deliver a performance that reflects the level of Yemeni football and gives Yemeni fans reasons to follow the team during the tournament.
Ashour pointed out that the team aims to make a respectable appearance and maintain the notable presence that the Yemeni youth team has consistently shown in its previous participations, while benefiting technically from all matches and striving to achieve results that strengthen its position in the competition.
The national team will enter the match against Palestine in an all-red kit, while the goalkeeper will wear an all-black kit.
