The International Organization for Migration (IOM), a UN agency, announced on Monday the displacement of over 300,000 people in Yemen, due to renewed fighting and the escalation of military operations in the country's western regions.

The organization stated in a statement that the recent wave of displacement has forced more than 300,000 people to leave their homes, noting that most of them have been displaced in the last two months.

It added that "displaced families are struggling to find shelter and secure basic needs, while restrictions make it difficult for aid agencies to reach those in need."

The statement quoted Abdulsattar Isawi, head of the IOM mission in Yemen, as saying: "After years of conflict, families in Yemen are being forced to flee again, often with nothing but the clothes on their backs."

He added that these families "are in desperate need of shelter, food, clean water, and healthcare, and without further funding, they may be left without the assistance they urgently need."

According to the statement, the fighting has also led to a significant increase in the prices of basic commodities, with costs rising three to five times in the city of Taiz, as roads to surrounding areas have been cut off, making essential food supplies inaccessible to many families.

Military confrontations in Yemen resumed last July after a period of relative calm. Several fronts saw an escalation in combat operations, resulting in deaths and injuries, including civilians, as well as large waves of displacement and a worsening humanitarian situation.
