Yemen's Ambassador to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Dr. Mohammed Jumeh, announced the organization's approval to fund a project to protect turtles in the Socotra archipelago.

In a post on his Facebook account, Jumeh stated that the head of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre informed him, via an official letter, of the approval to fund the project submitted by Yemen's mission to the organization, based on a proposal from local authorities in the archipelago in cooperation with local actors.

He explained that the project will contribute to protecting the natural heritage of the Socotra archipelago and enhance the capabilities of local authorities to preserve and maintain this heritage.

He noted that the project will be implemented under the supervision of the World Heritage Centre and the UNESCO Regional Office in the Qatari capital, Doha.
