Yemeni Government Issues Urgent Appeal to Aid Affected and Displaced in Taiz and Hodeidah

The Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation in the Yemeni government has launched an urgent humanitarian appeal to assist the affected and displaced populations due to the escalation of armed confrontations in the governorates of Taiz and Hodeidah.
The ministry stated that it is following with concern the deteriorating humanitarian situation, coinciding with renewed clashes and military escalation in several areas of Taiz, including Mocha, Maqbanah, Jabal Habashi, Mawza, Al-Ma'afer, Al-Wazi'iyah, and Dhubab, in addition to Al-Khawkha and Hays in Hodeidah governorate.
It explained that the escalation has caused the forced displacement and evacuation of residents, in addition to the targeting of residential areas and sites for gathering and sheltering the displaced, which has led to families being uprooted from their homes and an urgent increase in humanitarian needs.
The ministry called for providing emergency shelter and food baskets for displaced families, sending essential medicines and medical supplies, and establishing field hospitals to treat the injured and wounded.
It also demanded the provision of drinking water and sanitation services in displacement camps to reduce health risks and the spread of diseases among those displaced and affected by the escalation.
Earlier, the ministry's office in Taiz reported the displacement of 917 families due to renewed confrontations and military operations in the Maqbanah district and neighboring areas in the Jabal Habashi district of Taiz governorate, warning of an expansion of displacement and a worsening of humanitarian needs in the coming days.
In an urgent humanitarian report and appeal issued on Friday, the office stated that the number of displaced families monitored as of the report's date reached 917, according to initial field information from the Executive Unit for IDP Camp Management in the governorate, noting that the number is likely to rise as the escalation continues and the situation on the ground develops.
The report explained that the families were forced to leave their areas suddenly, with the displacement affecting areas in the sub-districts of Yemen, Al-Abdalah, and Al-Ashmilah, and the Al-Hajab camp in Maqbanah district, in addition to the Al-Rahba and Al-Rajhi camps in Jabal Habashi district.
It pointed out that the displaced families have moved to safer areas in the Jabal Habashi and Al-Ma'afer districts, while other families remain trapped in their areas, unable to leave due to continuous shelling, raising fears of new waves of displacement.
According to the report, the displaced families left behind some of their belongings and basic necessities during their departure, leading to an urgent increase in their needs for shelter, food, water, healthcare, and protection.
