Government Welcomes Security Council Statement on Houthi Escalation

The Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the presidential statement issued by the UN Security Council on October 15, 2026, regarding the Houthi military escalation in Yemen and attacks on Saudi Arabia. It also welcomed the statement's condemnation of attacks targeting civilians, civilian facilities, airports, and energy infrastructure, as well as the ongoing threats to international navigation in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab.
In a statement issued today, the ministry emphasized the importance of the Security Council members' unified stance, the necessity of fully implementing Resolution 2216 issued in 2015 and related resolutions, and strengthening international cooperation to prevent the Houthis from obtaining weapons and other forms of support.
It stated that these steps would contribute to halting the attacks and threats that target security and stability in Yemen and the region.
The Yemeni Foreign Ministry praised the solidarity of the Security Council members with Yemen and Saudi Arabia in confronting Houthi attacks on civilians and civilian facilities, affirming the right of states, in accordance with international law, to take necessary measures to defend their sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity, and to protect their citizens and residents.
