International Organization for Migration: Over 100,000 Displaced by Fighting in Yemen
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) stated that the number of internally displaced persons in Yemen has exceeded 104,000, distributed among 17,461 families, according to data from the Displacement Tracking Matrix.
The organization added that the number of people who crossed the border from Yemen to Djibouti has reached 2,776, according to the latest available data.
The organization quoted aid workers as saying that the pace of displacement exceeds their ability to monitor it in real-time. Families are moving under bombardment, often at night. Many carry only what they can hold.
It continued: Taiz remains the epicenter of displacement, with over 63,000 people displaced in its various districts, most notably Jabal Habashi (21,018), Al-Ma'afer (12,642), and Ash-Shamayatayn (8,250). It is followed by Lahj with about 26,400 displaced people, most of them from the Al-Mudraba and Al-A'ra area, where about 19,000 people have fled. Aden has recorded over 3,500 displaced people, while the regions of Abyan, Hadhramaut, and Ma'rib are seeing a rise in displacement numbers as the fighting expands.
The IOM called on donors to take urgent action to fund the response before more families are forced to leave their homes with nothing left to lose.
It stressed that the situation remains volatile, with more displacement expected in the coming days.
