An exclusive source revealed to 'Al-Mahriah' that the Central Bank in Aden issued a decision appointing a new management, represented by a director and a deputy, for the bank's branch in Shabwa governorate.

The source explained that the new director and his deputy arrived from Aden to the city of Ataq to assume their official duties, but Governor Awad Al-Wazir objected to the decision and asked the bank's leadership in Aden to halt the deputy's appointment.

The source confirmed that the handover process for the new director was completed, while uncertainty still surrounds the fate of the deputy's appointment following the Shabwa governor's objection.

He added that this administrative dispute is linked to a crisis dating back to June 2025, when five of the branch's employees, including the former director, were suspended on suspicion of embezzling about four billion Yemeni rials through suspicious currency exchange deals.

The source noted that the Al-Arish police in Aden had released the suspended employees after two months of detention for lack of evidence regarding the charges against them  and under direct orders from the Central Bank's governor.
