Masked STC-affiliated elements assault Al-Mahriah reporter during a September 26 Revolution event in Mukalla
Al-Mahriah TV reporter, Zakaria Mohammed, was verbally and physically assaulted while performing his journalistic duties and covering a public event commemorating the anniversary of the September 26th Revolution in the city of Mukalla, Hadramout governorate.
According to the reporter's statement, more than 10 masked elements affiliated with the dissolved Southern Transitional Council (STC) confronted him during the coverage, directed insults at him, before the situation escalated to a physical assault in an attempt to prevent him from performing his journalistic duties and documenting the event.
Al-Mahriah TV's management called on the local authorities and security agencies in Mukalla to apprehend the perpetrators and take legal action against them.
The Journalists' Syndicate and international organizations concerned with press freedom were also called upon to condemn the assault against the channel's reporter while he was performing his journalistic duties.
Al-Mahriah TV affirmed its right to take all legal measures against those involved in the assault and to pursue them legally.
