Al Mahrah: Roads and Bridges Corp launches Sesbania tree removal campaign in Haswayn

The General Corporation for Roads and Bridges in Al Mahrah Governorate, funded by the local authority, launched a campaign to remove Sesbania trees in the Al-Wadi area of Haswayn district. These trees spread widely after the floods caused by Cyclone Tej, encroaching on several homes, obstructing movement, and providing a suitable environment for dangerous animals, reptiles, and mosquitoes, posing health and environmental risks to residents.
The Director General of the Corporation, Engineer Obaid Jumaan bin Atour, explained that this work is being carried out under the directives of the local authority's leadership to alleviate the suffering of residents due to the increasing spread of Sesbania trees, address the resulting damages and risks, improve the environment around homes, and facilitate citizen mobility.
Bin Atour noted that this campaign helps curb the spread of Sesbania trees, addresses some of the effects left by the floods, and responds to the needs of the citizens, thereby enhancing public safety and reducing health and environmental risks in the area.
He called for the need to find radical and sustainable solutions to limit the spread of Sesbania trees and combat them, given their expanding presence in various areas of the governorate and the threat they pose to flood channels, citizens' homes, and agricultural lands, in addition to their environmental and health impacts. He stressed the importance of concerted efforts by the relevant authorities to develop effective measures to curb their spread and prevent the exacerbation of their damage in the future.
