Arsenal Falls to Brighton and Hull City Suffers First Premier League Defeat
Brighton delivered a major upset, defeating their guests Arsenal 3-0 in the fifth round of the English Premier League on Saturday.
After eliminating Manchester United from the English League Cup with a 3-2 away win at Old Trafford last week, Brighton continued to trouble England's top teams, handing the reigning champions their first loss of the season across all domestic and continental competitions.
Brighton ended the first half ahead with goals from Pascal Groß and Charalambos Koustoulas in the 31st and 45th minutes, and Chima Andres added the third goal in the second half in the 57th minute.
With this result, Brighton continues its revival and secures its second consecutive win, raising its tally to 10 points in third place.
As for Arsenal, they suffered their first loss, freezing their score at 12 points in second place, behind leaders Manchester City on goal difference, who will host Sunderland on Sunday.
In another match, Newcastle United won 2-1 at home against Hull City, handing the visitors their first English Premier League loss of the season in the fifth round of the competition on Saturday.
Newcastle finished off their opponents early, scoring two goals in the first seven minutes.
In the third minute, Harvey Barnes passed the ball to his teammate Joseph Willock, who set it up for himself before firing a powerful left-footed shot into the net.
In a similar scenario, Barnes passed the ball into the penalty area, where left-back Lewis Hall met it with a direct shot into the left corner, putting The Magpies ahead with a second goal in the seventh minute.
In the first minute of added time, Newcastle striker Yoane Wissa missed a penalty, which was saved by Konstantinos Tzolakis.
The visitors reduced the deficit in the second half with a lone goal scored by Mohamed Ali Cho in the 67th minute, following a brilliant through ball from Algerian Mohamed Bachir Belloumi.
With this result, Newcastle United raises its tally to 8 points in eighth place, trailing on goal difference behind Hull City, promoted to the Premier League this season, who suffered their first loss after two wins and two draws in the first four rounds.
In another match at the same time, Everton defeated their guests Ipswich Town 1-0.
Thierno Barry scored the only goal for the home side in the 11th minute.
Ipswich finished the match with a numerical disadvantage after their player Abdul Fatawu was sent off in the 67th minute for receiving a second yellow card for diving to win a penalty.
With this win, Everton breaks a series of three consecutive draws and maintains their undefeated record, raising their tally to 9 points in fifth place, while Ipswich Town's score freezes at 6 points in eleventh place after suffering their third loss in the first five rounds.
