Manchester City secured a valuable and thrilling 5-3 victory over their guests Sunderland in a match at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday evening, as part of the fifth round of the English Premier League.
Manchester City continued their perfect start in the Premier League, securing their fifth consecutive victory to achieve a perfect record, raising their tally to 15 points and taking sole possession of the top spot in the league table.
The Sky Blues capitalized on a gift from Arsenal, after the latter suffered a surprising 0-3 defeat against Brighton, giving Manchester City the chance to claim the top spot alone.
Enzo Fernández opened the scoring for Manchester City in the ninth minute, before Sunderland quickly equalized through their striker Brian Brobbey in the 12th minute.
Manchester City regained the lead in the 29th minute through Ryan Cherki, but Brobbey continued his brilliant performance and scored his second personal goal in the 33rd minute, bringing the match back to a tie.
Before the end of the first half, Manchester City restored their lead with a third goal by Antoine Semenyo in the 43rd minute, ending the first half with The Sky Blues leading 3-2.
In the second half, the goal fest continued as Semenyo added his second personal goal and Manchester City's fourth in the 57th minute, before Brobbey completed his personal hat-trick by scoring Sunderland's third goal in the 59th minute.
Norwegian Erling Haaland sealed the match for Manchester City, scoring the fifth goal in the 81st minute to confirm his team's 5-3 victory and grant them three new points in the race for the English Premier League top spot.
In another match, Liverpool returned to their winning ways with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over their hosts Bournemouth, raising their tally to 9 points in sixth place, while Bournemouth's score remained frozen at 3 points in 17th place.
