UN Requests $22.7 Million to Help Those Affected by Escalation in Yemen
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has urgently appealed for $22.7 million to expand its humanitarian response in Yemeni areas affected by military escalation, particularly on the west coast and southern fronts of Taiz governorate, through December 2026.
The Fund stated in a report released on Sunday that the requested funding will enable it to reach approximately 80,000 families through Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM) kits, in addition to providing life-saving reproductive health services to about 95,000 women and girls newly affected by the conflict.
The funding will also contribute to providing protection, prevention, and response services for violence for about 42,000 women and girls by deploying mobile teams, establishing additional service delivery points, distributing clean delivery kits, and expanding integrated reproductive health and gender-based violence protection services.
The Fund noted that the escalation of hostilities since the beginning of September has led to a sharp deterioration in the humanitarian situation, coinciding with increased pressure on reproductive health services and a rising need for gender-based violence prevention and response services.
The report clarified that the inter-agency Rapid Response Mechanism, led by the Fund, had provided emergency assistance to 8,312 families, approximately 59,000 people, as of September 14, while another 6,283 families are still pending verification.
This UN funding request comes amid growing humanitarian needs resulting from the military escalation, and the accompanying displacement and damage to basic services, especially in the coastal areas and southern fronts of Taiz.
