Human rights group accuses Shabwah authorities of obstructing activities and demanding its leader's replacement
The Dameer Foundation for Rights and Freedoms said that the local authority in Shabwah governorate obstructed its activities and last August prevented it from holding a training workshop on promoting girls' access to university education.
The foundation explained that the State Security Apparatus prevented the workshop from being held, while the Office of Social Affairs and Labor issued an order to suspend its head, stipulating his replacement, a decision which the foundation has officially appealed.
It added that the ban on the workshop coincided with a demand for the foundation's head to sign a written commitment to cease his activity on social media, which it considers a restriction of its human rights work.
The foundation called on the Ministry of Human Rights, human rights organizations, and donor agencies to follow up on the case, affirming its right to resort to the judiciary and to demand compensation for the damages and losses resulting from what it described as arbitrary measures.
